Gloucester County sponsors several Household Special Waste Collection Days
for many hazardous products. Refer to the Gloucester County Recycling
Guide distributed annually, or visit their website at
www.gcianj.com or call
Gloucester County Recycling @ (856) 478-6045.

The improper disposal of hazardous household waste can cause problems
for the entire community. Some waste is toxic to humans or wildlife, while
others can cause serious medical problems. NEVER dump hazardous waste down
a toilet or drain, or on the ground, or in a catch basin or storm drain
where they could contaminate soil or be carried into local streams and
drinking water sources.
Federal law allows only licensed hazardous waste haulers to handle
combustible waste. Any product which is labeled "warning, caution,
poisonous, toxic, flammable, corrosive, reactive or explosive" is
considered hazardous.
This includes household products that contain toxic chemicals,
ammunition, paint, pesticides, herbicides, turpentine, lighter fluid,
photographic and pool chemicals, rat poison, car batteries and other
hazardous materials.
Gloucester County sponsors several "Household Special Waste" collection
days each year. These items may be taken to the county for proper
disposal. For additional information please call the Gloucester County
Improvement Authority at 848-4002 or check at their website:
www.gcianj.com.
Asbestos products are never to be disposed of with your household
trash. For information regarding the disposal of asbestos, please call the
Gloucester County Solid Waste Complex at 478-6045.

Trash Collection (Friday) - All trash must be placed in containers with a
total weight not exceeding 50 lbs. Plastic trash bags are acceptable,
but must not be overloaded or ruptured. Use of other receptacles besides
plastic bags or trash cans could lead to the inadvertent disposal
of containers.
Any trash or construction debris that is generated by a contractor is
the responsibility of the contractor and the homeowner. The Borough
will not remove this waste, even if it is placed at the curb and is
properly containerized. All trash must be placed at the curb prior to 7:00
AM on trash day, but not before 6:00PM on the day prior to the collection.
After collection, all empty containers shall be removed from the curb side
promptly. Waste that does not comply will not be picked up.
Bulk Pick Ups - Furniture and non-recyclable bulk items will be
collected on the same day as household trash, Friday. Note: trash
contractor picks up bulk items. Recyclable appliances, washers, dryers,
scrap metal, etc. will be removed by contacting the Public Works
Department at: 468-5300. Please leave a message with your address and a
description of what needs to be picked up.
Leaf Collection October 18th through December 20th
(NOT in bags or containers)
Place in street away from curb, vehicles and storm drains
When:
 | Leaves will be picked up on a rotating basis throughout the borough
approximately every 7 to 10 days.
|
 | Timing is dependent upon weather and/or Public Works availability in
the event of in-town emergencies.
|
 | After the bulk leaf collection has been completed on December 20,
all leaves should be put in containers. |
How:
 | Leaves placed too near a parked car cannot be picked up (adequate
space is required for leaf removal equipment)
|
 | During bulk leaf collection, leaves should be placed in the street
far enough from the curb line to allow water to flow past to the catch
basins.
|
 | Leaves should be placed at least 10-foot from all storm water catch
basins. |
What:
 | Do not mix tree limbs or branches with leaves. If mixed in or on top
of the leaves, leaves will not be picked up.
|
 | Pine needles may be included with the leaves.
|
 | Please note that pine needles are considered leaves. |
Grass Clippings - These must be mulched or recycled on your own
property. The Borough will not collect grass clippings.
Branches for Chipping (1st & 3rd Monday until mid-October) (includes Christmas
trees - first week of January) - Small branches should be cut into 6 foot lengths and placed at
the curb for collection. Please make sure branches are separate from loose
yard waste which must be containerized.
Wood Chips - Please help yourself to wood chips. They are located on
S. Garfield Avenue. Call the Public Works Office at 468-5300 if you want some delivered to your
driveway (not on the street).
Containerized Yard Waste (2nd & 4th Monday until mid-October) - For pickup on
designated days, please place waste in container at the curb. Containers
can be heavy duty plastic bags, cardboard boxes, clean trash cans or other
plastic containers. Container's weight must not exceed 50 lbs. All
containers, including plastic bags, will be left with the homeowner. We
cannot dispose of yard waste effectively if plastic is included! Note:
yard waste does not include grass clippings or leaves.
Snow Removal - When Snow is expected, please make every attempt
to park vehicles in driveways or off the street. If your car MUST remain
on the street when it snows, please use the odd/even system for the
purpose of successful plowing. On odd days, park cars on the odd numbered
side of the street. On even days, park the cars on the even numbered side
of the street. We thank you for these efforts which will aid in the prompt
and efficient removal of snow from our streets. If at all possible, wait
to shovel your driveway until the snow has been pushed back to the curb
line by the plows. Sidewalks must be cleared within 12 hours of
accumulation, as per ordinance.

someone to cut down a tree, the contractor must remove the wood. Remember,
removal of shade trees requires approval from the Shade Tree Commission.
