It doesn't matter what the people of Wenonah want!!
That's what Philipp Kaeferle, Gerald Sinclair, John Howard and Mayor
Tommie Lombardo seemed to be saying this past Thursday night (April
28th, 2011) at the Council Meeting. While people at the Council meeting were
publicly trying to get a referendum passed which would allow the people of
Wenonah to vote on whether or not we want to keep our Wenonah Police Force, the
Council decided to have a closed session and announce an item in that closed
session whereby the Council would vote on whether to open contract negotiations
with the Mantua Police Force. Word is that there were objections from the other
Council members but the above named individuals decided that they know best for
the Borough of Wenonah and that the residents shouldn't have any say in how
the Borough is policed! So once Council re-opened the public portion
of the meeting and a motion was made to vote on the resolution the above named
individuals were the ONLY ones who voted yes for the resolution (the four
constituted a majority) and it was passed at that point without anyone in the
public having any say!

 |
Is that why we elected these officials? They were all well aware
of the mixed feelings the Borough resident's have ... yet they went ahead and by
their votes said that "we don't care how the Borough residents feel." If you
believe that an issue such as this is important enough for the residents to vote
on, then remember who it is that doesn't care about you or what you want!
Remember their names when they come up for re-election and lets get some
representatives on the Borough Council who truly care what the residents want.

 | Whether people are for keeping the police or against it, some
residents feel that it is our right to vote on such a decision. What
affects a community should be decided on by the community. If anyone,
whether for or against the police staying, is interested in helping by
submitting their signature and collecting signatures to force a referendum,
they can email their name and contact information to
LetThePeopleVote@WenonahNJ.us. The coordinator of the group (Rebecca)
will collect your information and be in touch with you as soon as the next
steps are ready to be taken. |

 | A Quick Reminder from Rebecca (see 5/4/2011 update above): We're
encouraging the Boro citizens to
attend the July 28th council meeting. This is a
very important meeting and we need to show the council that the citizens are
committed to keeping their police department. They seem to be wavering and,
if we do not show up to tell them we're serious, it's still very possible
losing them may happen. We'd love to see everyone come out and support their
local police.
Editor's note: Whether you're for keeping the Police or not - come out and
support your right to vote on the issue! |

See the Note below from some of the citizens of the Borough Of Wenonah:
 |
Dear Wenonah Resident:
This Nov 8th, Wenonah residents will have a question on the ballot about an
issue that affects us all locally. The non-binding ballot question asks if
Council should seek to dissolve our own police force and contract with another
town for the purposes of saving money. The financial information posted does not
take into account the recent cost reductions by the departure of our police
chief and a sergeant.
So how much will each of us save? About 50 cents a day for each household for
such a drastic step.
Please take the time to add your voice.
Vote "NO" on the police ballot question on November 8th.
Thank you!
Your neighbors,
Rebecca Kowalewicz, John Ruszin, Jack Sheppard Sr., Alice Sheppard, Happy
McInnes, George Braun, Vicki McCall, Lou McCall, Steve Sparks, Delor Cornell, &
Chris Peraino
